*I just found out that Mauthausen Orchestra died recently and the "Under Control" 7" record on Placenta Recordings was his final album! I am honored and sad. R.I.P. Pierpaolo Zoppo, I am proud to have worked with him! I am a huge fan and supporter of Mauthausen Orchestra and we were working together very well. He even got his request of transparent blue vinyl. Shame on everyone who doubted us. We released the FINAL recordings of Mauthausen Orchestra, and we are proud to have worked with such a legend. R.I.P. Pierpaolo Zoppo, my friend and a huge inspiration to many.*

"One of the early Italian power-electronics projects, Mauthausen Orchestra, in the person of Pierpaolo Zoppo, started in 1982, releasing tapes on his own label Aquilifer Sodality. His work explored morbid subjects, usually extreme sex, perversion, tortures and disease, and the sound was a brutal collage of noise, electronics distortions and inhuman vocals. Mauthausen Orchestra stopped in 1986, some recordings from 1988 were published ten years later by Xn Recordings.  In 1997 Zoppo resurrected the project and released some new material, while a series of reissues of the early cassettes was published by Slaughter Productions. "

MAUTHAUSEN ORCHESTRA Under Control 7" VINYL (Placenta Recordings)

"One of the key figures of the Italian post-industrial scene, Pierpaolo Zoppo (aka Mauthausen Orchestra) died suddenly in early 2012, leaving behind a body of work that includes some of the most diseased and evil-sounding electronic music ever. While his more recent recordings tended to be a bit hit and miss in terms of , I've still followed his work over the years and was bummed to hear that he had died this past spring. Apparently the last thing that Zoppo had been working on releasing prior to his death was this 7" for Placenta, the two-song Under Control7", and its one of the better of his later recordings. Housed in a white jacket with the sort of morbid, cadaverous imagery that adorned his classic Necrofellatio and Murderfuck cassettes, Under Control features two tracks of writhing industrial creep.

The a-side bursts like a blister as "Under Control" pours forth in an oozing mess of flanged distortion and thumping low-end noise, the extreme low frequencies creating a strange fluttering effect as the speakers reverberate with the whump of Zoppo's synth. Like a lot of his later material, this is more of an abstract noisescape than the rotting, evil death industrial primitivism of his iconic 80's output, but it's still plenty bleak, a macro-view of collapsing machinery and diseased circuit-boards, revealing the vaguest hints of musicality in the strange descending note patterns that emerge in the final throes of the track.

"Edge Of No Control" slowly drifts in on a wave of warped, atonal synth notes and buzzing distortion, this amorphous mass sounding like some ectoplasmic residue from a carnival freaktent, as Zoppo slowly introduces additional layers of warbling synth notes, clusters of misshapen melody that later drop in and out as the track evolves into an expanse of rumbling noise and creepy minor key melodies take shape, eventually turning into an alien sort of church music. Limited to two hundred fifty copies."

2012 has been a whirlwind of activity for the Placenta Recordings family! I want to start out by giving my sincere appreciation, love, and respect for everyone who represents and supports PR, big to small.

This year marked a number of historical happenings, including our 200th release, the addition of such legendary acts to our roster as Merzbow, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Mauthausen Orchestra, Black Mayonnaise, Chulo, Tumor Ganas, Hemorragia, K2, Alienslang, and tons more, with our intention to release a massive amount of obscure and diverse music from an extensive international community, working with artists from such lands as Iran, Mexico, Japan, Spain, France, Colombia, Ecuador, United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, U.S.A., Germany, Indonesia, Serbia, Greece, and tons of other amazing countries. We have shipped packages to each corner of the earth over the last 12 months (and of course the last 7 years) reaching all of these places and more! We even accept paypal now and introduced our first Italian Skate Punk, American Hip Hop, and Iranian Black Metal albums into the catalog. Diversity is key.

We have continued on our tradition to form solid and unique connections all over the planet this year, teaming up with our friend's companies Pirates Press, BSharp Productions, Grindcore Karaoke, Halfway House, Mannequin Rein Distro,  Lion Cool Man, Crucial Blast Records, Decibel Magazine, Studio Anatomy, Trashfuck Records, Ratskin Records, Love Earth Music, Norcal Noisefest, Northern Express, Sirona Records, Blue In The Face, WNMC FM Traverse City, Rachel Viola, S.S., Sean Barry, Brain Rape Fanzine, Psycho+Logical Records (yes, we even did an interview with Brooklyn, NYC rapper/producer Necro) and a number of different art galleries, studios, radio stations, websites, and venues to bring more exposure, networking, information, performances and merchandise out in the open!

Our operation has continued to expand from music, art, and events into producing magazines, film, pornography, interviews, reviews, radio broadcasts, recordings, t-shirts, stickers, buttons, merchandise distribution, importing, exporting, design, promotion, and whatever else we can get our paws into!  We have PR shirts available, featuring a huge picture of my cat/PR mascot “Rostov”, which are moving fast and we are finally to the point of releasing 7" & 12" vinyl on our own & with co-releasers and continuously releasing CD, CD-R, DVD, Cassette, and Digital Downloads on a much more regular basis.

Press has been good for PR this year also. Decibel Magazine featured articles about Placenta Recordings 4 times over the course of the year, in one issue labeling us as "Label Of The Month Part 2" and spot lighting us in the "Debutante’s Ball" article in issue #95! A popular German review site known as “Kulturterrorismus.de” has been running an ongoing special on PR releases and an interview with Dental Work, which are available to read on their site. Other press who featured our releases this year include: Vital Weekly (Netherlands), The Big Takeover (Sacremento, CA), and Brain Rape fanzine (Lansing, MI) who did a multi-page re-cap of PR’s  no holds barred version of Woodstock: “Mental Spaghetti Fest (#3)”, which I will tell you about now.

Our crew managed to take over a northern Michigan compound known as "The Property" to hold an annual celebration of freedom, music and art known as "Mental Spaghetti Fest #3", bringing such diverse acts as Right Eye Rita, Crochetcatpause, Bruxism, Dental Work, Medicinal Groove, Bubblegum Octopus, Eprom Colony, Selector Catalog, Kevin Summers, Watabou, Faction Disaster, RedSK, Kessenchu, Barbeque, Medicine Mouth, Flylingual Sound Poet, Amigo, Consumption, All Odds Against, Lady Cumdumpster, Swallow Or It’s Going In Your Eye, Pep-Step, Ein Sof Goyle, Fluff, Jimmy Olson, Rory Johnson, Total Hipster Crusher, and many more. A data disc compilation was released after the event containing 16 full live sets and a billion digital photos from the event This will become a tradition every year now! Thanks to Patrick Doyle for being our official audio bootleger, and thanks to EVERYONE who made this event possible!

Our artists have been infecting various live music scenes across the country and globe, every time I check online I am seeing our artists playing shows from Oakland, CA to Tokyo, Japan, with strong footholds in Detroit, MI, Chicago, IL, New York City, NY, Minneapolis, MN, Denver, CO, Sacramento, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Bogota, Colombia, all over Europe, Asia, and North/Central/South America! My 2012 flier collection is HUGE! Man there were some great shows this year! Our "subsidiary companies" have also received a nice boost this year, our official modeling team "HAREM" is reaching an online cult status since the birth of it's own website, we have added over a dozen new models including Bronze Jones, Laura Maier, Brionna Mix, Lucy Aguilar, Michelle Shears, Luna Seraphine, and more! We released our first issue, and are now working on HAREM #2! Kittendorf Piezo Co. unleashed their 2nd model of contact microphones, and are officially sponsoring Dental Work with the use of the KPC Rechteck Modulator. Snitch Carnitas Russian Imports is hard at work on the bootleg scene, and are about to drop the “Made In Lebanon” Box Set and various cassette releases by Thug Bites and Fattoush Douche.

All in all, 2012 has been fucking insane, and I can't wait to see what 2013 will offer! "Merzbow (メルツバウ Merutsubau?) is the main recording name of the Japanese noise musician Masami Akita (秋田 昌美 Akita Masami?). Since 1979, he has released over 350 recordings.

The name "Merzbow" comes from German artist Kurt Schwitters' artwork, "Merzbau". This was chosen to reflect Akita's dada influence and junk artaesthetic. In addition to this, Akita has cited a wide range of influences from progressive rock, free jazz, modern classical and musique concrète. More recently, he has been inspired by animals, animal rights, and environmentalism.

As well as being a prolific musician, he has been a writer and editor for several books and magazines in Japan, and has written 17 books of his own. He has written about a variety of subjects, mostly about art, avant-garde, and post-modern culture. His more renowned works have been on the topics of BDSM and fetish culture. Other art forms Akita has been interested in include painting, photography, filmmaking, and Butoh dance.

Akita's work has been the subject of several remix albums and at least one tribute album. This, among other achievements, has helped Merzbow to be regarded by some as the "most important artist in noise"

Ultra Death Men began in 2008 as a four piece free jazz ensemble.

The band is three skinny, food-loving music teachers, playing five instruments.
